How to Educate Children on Sexual Abuse!

How to Educate Children on Sexual Abuse!
No one would know from looking at this picture of me smiling at about five years old that I was being sexually abused and keeping it a secret out of fear. Please read this article to help educate other children to use their voices and not experience years of abuse in silence.

I've had many people over the years ask me how I think children should be educated about this incredibly important topic. It's a very sensitive topic and many people have differing opinions on how to share it with children.

The most important thing I believe is to remind children that you will love and care for them no matter what. Then instilling the knowledge of what safe touch and unsafe touch are and what good secrets are opposed to bad secrets.

Once a child can grasp those concepts I believe that using tools such as educational, age-appropriate books, can be extremely helpful.

Below I'm listing and attaching a link to Amazon books that can help educate children and keep them as safe as possible. These books encourage children to speak up when they witness or experience something that doesn't feel good or appropriate, how to tell, and remind them that no matter what it's not their fault.

  1. "From My Head to My Toes" By Aly Raisman
  2. "The Right Touch" By Sandy Kleven
  3. "Body Boundaries Make Me Stronger" By Elizabeth Cole
  4. "Teach Your Dragon Body Safety" By Steve Herman
  5. "Yes! No!: A First Conversation About Consent" By Megan Madison, Jessica Ralli, et al.
  6. Body Safety Book for Kids" By Adrian Laurent
  7. "Consent (For Kids)" By Rachel Brian
  8. "Consent Ninja" By Mary Nhin
  9. "I Choose to Say No" By Elizabeth Estrada
  10. "Let's Talk about Body Boundaries" By Julia Emote
If I had known all the information from these books and many others like them my child sexual abuse could've been prevented.

I want every child to have the education and tools to protect their body, speak up and, get help if or when they need it. My mission is to educate people from all walks of life to prevent what happened to me from happening to anyone else.

All children have the right to say no and be heard and respected. All children deserve respect, happiness, and comfort.
